Lasse (vocals, guitars, songs), Eero (bass), Börje (drums) and Janne (guitars, backing vocals).
Where are you based?
We are from Helsinki, Finland. The rock capital of the North. It is dark and melancholic here. Perfect.
What genre would you describe yourself as?
We can be found in the Alternative Rock section, Punk Rock section or Hard Rock section in a record store. Any of those work fine. Or just plain old Rock.
Who is your main inspiration
All in all, life is our main inspiration, on all levels. What happens to us as individuals, as a group and as a society. That is where our music comes from. Artist wise it is a mix of Bad Religion, Sonic Youth, Pavement, Rage Against the Machine, Mudhoney, Biffy Clyro, Idlewild, Helmet, Deftones, Tom Waits… and Charles Bukowski of course.
What is your songwriting process (which bits come first?)
It varies. Sometimes it starts with a guitar riff, other times there is a lyric line. Some songs begin with a chord progression or vocal melody. In almost all cases Lasse comes up with the core (riffs, melody, chords, structure, words) and the band then jointly hash it into a finalized song.
What made you want to start in music?
The usual story: Teenagers need something to do to keep them away from bad habits. Rock music seemed cool and did not require too much studying and practicing. It was also a way to get out of our shells, learn to perform, and maybe get some following. After that initial external spark getting us into music, the art itself quickly took over as the driver. Writing songs, arranging them together and playing live became the reason, and it has kept us together ever since.
What is on the horizon for you?
Our debut album ’It Began as a Mistake’, came out October 23rd so that is very much on the immediate horizon. It has been quite the project and we are extremely happy it is finally ready for release. Other than that, the current times do not make it easy to plan too far ahead. We have our sights on next summer’s festivals and playing shows in general, maybe seeing some new places, but we need to wait and see what happens with lockdowns, quarantines, and the music industry in general.
Who would you most like to collaborate with (alive or dead)?
Practically thinking, it would have to be either a great producer or then a writer or poet of some kind. But getting to spend a week with Tom Waits, with the mission to create musical art in any shape or form, would really be something.
What is your ultimate goal?
We want a good amount of people to find our music and get something meaningful out of it. We hope people find hope in the songs and can relate to the stories. As a band we want to become better, continuously write better songs and play better shows, and enjoy our time together. And see some new places while doing so.
If you could cover any song, what would it be?
Tough one. A good cover version has to add something new to the song, so covering already great performances is kind of pointless. We only occasionally play cover songs because of this exact reason. That said, in my experience the most fun song to cover has been ‘Gay Bar’ by Electric Six. Great riff, great lyrics, great tune, and one that you can crank up and speed up to the max, and have a blast live.
Tea making: milk first or last?
Oh, wow! It’s probably important to mention that in Finland we don’t take tea too seriously. We are heavy coffee drinkers. And booze drinkers. But yeah, milk last. Is that the right way?
Tell us your funniest joke!
This one fits our band so well:
How do you know it’s the drummer knocking on the door? The knocking keeps getting faster and faster.
