I'm Matt Burnside of The Ocean Beneath and I suppose you would say I'm the producer and a bit of everything else really. Rich Blacker started the project with me but has less time to dedicate to it now but still helps out when he can.

Where are you based?

I'm based just outside Leeds in Yorkshire of the UK.

What genre would you describe yourself as?

We find it really difficult to put the music to a specific genre but probably electronica? synthwave? Indie-Electro? It's electronic music with big grooves and a lot of 80's inspiration.

Who is your main inspiration?

Hard to name one but would probably have to say the biggest inspiration would be Daft Punk. Them guys took electronic music to places where it's never been and made their own unique brand so succesful.

What is your songwriting process (which bits come first?)

Usually tracks start as little pallets of information, a sound from one of the analogue synths or a rhythmical idea jotted down in midi. Must have a 1000 of these on my hard drive, the ones that stand out get turned in to full tracks. Most of them have a feeling attached for me, something I just have to get out in music form.

What made you want to start in music?

I think I first really got into music listening to Pink Floyd records that my dad played. Once I realised how much I enjoyed music I bought an electric guitar and played along with the solos on the guitar.

What is on the horizon for you?

We just released a brand new single called Skin ft. Fran Minney so pushing that right now is the main thing. There's a great video Fran created over on YouTube, go check it out.

Who would you most like to collaborate with (alive or dead)?

I'd probably have to say James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem right now. He has a knack for writing songs that just resonate with me but also kick real hard.

What is your ultimate goal?

World Peace? No it'd be nice to just get our music out there for people to hear and maybe grow the following to allow us to release even more music and collaborations.

If you could cover any song, what would it be?

We released a cover of Fortunate Son by CCR recently and that was great fun. It featured Nath Jackson on vocals and Mik Crone on guitar. I'm not sure more covers is a thing we'll look at doing but potentially something by Bowie.

Tea making: milk first or last?

Tea, down the sink, make some coffee then add your milk at the end.

Tell us your funniest joke!

What ya call an alligator in a vest?

I'll get my coat.
