Winter Hotel are Warren Porter (vocals), Liam Osment (guitar), Charlie Wignall (drums) and James Clay (bass)

Where are you based?

We began as a band in Bangor, North Wales in the Autumn of 2017.

What genre would you describe yourself as?

We tend to call ourselves Alternative Metal. As a band, we strive to combine the darkest and lightest corners metal has to offer, as well as genres outside of metal as a whole. We take influences from slamming brutal death metal, all the way to post-hardcore, pop-punk and grunge.

Who is your main inspiration?

Our inspirations differ from member to member. For instance, our vocalist Warren is heavily influenced by bands such as Putrid Pile, Korpse and Cephalotripsy. While our guitarist Liam, is inspired more by Alesana, Hawthorne Heights and Motion City Soundtrack. Charlie can be found digging into Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumpkins and Igorrr for his inspirations. James stems his influence from the likes of Beartooth, Bullet for My Valentine and Slipknot.

What is your songwriting process (which bits come first?)

We typically find ourselves starting with lyrics, which Liam and Warren split 50/50, as well as riffs that then become the base for emotive tone and progression. Following that, we will develop the shell of the song as a whole, while each member writes their own individual parts. We will build the song together as a band and continue to comb through it until we arrive at the final product.

What made you want to start in music?

We all have had a passion for music since we were quite young. Some members of our families either play music themselves, have worked somewhere within the industry or just simply love the artfrom and allowed us to be heavily exposed to it throughout childhood. Music itself serves as an immaculate platform for honest expression both raw and refined. The ability to convey one's self and one’s stories to a listening audience is a wonderful thing.

What is on the horizon for you?

As of now, we have released three songs of the five chapters of our larger narrative, Vacancies. We are in the process of preparing everything for the next chapter to be revealed. As a band, we are still waiting for the pandemic to subside and allow music to be performed live again as it was before. We cannot wait to take the stage again.

Who would you most like to collaborate with (alive or dead)?

It would have ruled to do a tour with someone who makes a vastly different genre of music to our own, as well as a band or musician who really inspires us. Touring with the late and great David Bowie would have ticked both those boxes.

What is your ultimate goal?

Our ultimate goal is to take Winter Hotel as far as it can go. We want our music to be able to resonate with those who may feel lonely, depressed, isolated or anything of that nature. We are always honest with ourselves as musicians and as people, that’s something we strive to have come across in our songs. We want our music to be there for people when they need it.

If you could cover any song, what would it be?

Never Really Over by the all mighty Katy Perry would be incredibly fun.

Tea making: milk first or last?

People who put the milk in first are bad vibes. Add it last and no more than a drop. However, black coffee beats tea any day.

Tell us your funniest joke!

Why was the death metal vocalist asked to leave the cheese and wine club?

He didn’t bring the Breeeeee.
