Artist of the Day: D.I.G.

Updated: Sep 5, 2020

We have a good old chinwag with Björn, frontman of the Swedish band D.I.G, our Artist of the Day!

Introduce us to D.I.G?

So we are D.I.G and the band is Björn on Vocals and guitar, Fredrik on bass and Jonathan on drums. Björn is also the main songwriter. We are based in a small town in Sweden called Bengtsfors. It’s the most metal town ever since the postal code starts with 666! Always something right! Our music is a mix of classic and modern rock. We do try to mix things up a bit to keep things fresh.

Who is your main inspiration?

A band that have had a big impact on us is King´s X, a cult power trio from USA. Nowadays the inspiration can come from all over. But something that winds us up is hearing a great song or band!

What is your songwriting process?

The music always comes first, for good or bad. That’s the way I write. But lately I´ve been trying to write with the melody in focus. Sometimes you got to try some new approaches. But in general I start with the music, then present a song for the boys that’s finished to like 90% and then we play it together to see what works.

What made you want to start in music?

It was either to start with music or getting into cars… as mentioned before we come from a small town in the middle of the dark forests of Sweden, the options are limited haha.

What is on the horizon for you?

New music! We are planning to record music and get a new album out, hopefully by the end of this year.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

I would like to collaborate with Dug Pinnick from King´s X, his vocals and bass tone is just amazing! Then I might get Mike Portnoy on drums as well and try that power trio out!

What is your ultimate goal?

As a band we would like to grow our fan base and then the goal would be to play a really big festival or do a tour somewhere! That would be awesome.

If you could cover any song, what would it be?

We recently did cover “Anthem” by the band Rush. That was really cool. But doing “Dogman” from King´s X could be awesome, it´s like the heaviest song ever made haha.

Tea making: milk first or last?

It depends on the tea! I only use milk and sugar when drinking Earl Grey! And when I do I add the milk last.

Tell us your funniest joke!

We like “Gothenburg” jokes, don’t really know how they translate into English!

But just think of a bad joke with no meaning and there you go!
