Artist of the Day: Perseide

We crank up the volume for todays Artist of the Day as we take a trip across the Channel to meet Perseide.

Welcome! Tell us all about Perseide? Perseide are Julien (vocals / rhythm guitar), Adrien (lead guitar), Guillaume (bass) and Anthony (drums). We're from Lyon, the second biggest city of France, which makes the music scene very intense and varied! It gave us the chance to play multiple shows and build ourselves as a live band.

What genre would you describe yourself as? We're modern metal ranging from pop to metalcore, with heavy old school guitar riffs, catchy choruses, electro synths and intense vocal melodies

Who is your main inspiration? Very difficult question, because every band member has different musical influences. Classic, progressive, nu metal, electro music… we love many music styles! But when it comes to song writing, we really love bands like Avenged Sevenfold, In Flames, The Used and Enter Shikari.

How do you write your songs? The guitar players start with a pre-established framework that they propose to the other musicians. Then, we all make musical arrangements to fit everyone’s taste and we play the song in rehearsal and then we play it live. If the song please the audience, we keep the final version for recording and drop it right to your ears!

What made you want to start in music? We met each other in childhood! When we were teenagers, we were passionate about metal music. The feeling it gave us made us want to get on stage like our idols. Naturally, we started imitating our favourite bands, and then created our own band. It was almost 20 years ago, and the passion is still the same.

What is on the horizon for you?

We just dropped out our debut album “The Only Thing” and we are already working on new tracks to record an EP at the end of 2020. A huge live show will be set up in November, during which a live video will be recorded. 2021 will be marked by the release of new music videos and the new EP. We hope that it will allow us to book some great gigs with bands we love and keep the inspiration to write new songs and make the experience even greater!

Who would you most like to collaborate with? Without hesitation, we would like to share the stage with the bands that had influenced us the most: Enter Shikari, The Used, In Flames…

What is your ultimate goal? All that we want for our listeners is to enjoy. To feel free to love the music as we love it, no matter the style or influence. We have a lot of music influences and we always wanted to enjoy them together even if they could be contradictory. In a day of your life, you can be happy, sad, angry or crazy. The best way to live these emotions is to let them flow through you and to express them without holding back… That’s what we want to share with our music and live shows: you can be all these things at once and the music helps us to escape; even for the time of a song or a concert. Living and sharing this with our listeners to make them live these emotions with us to feel better is the more important thing for us.

If you could cover any song, what would it be? I would really enjoy covering again the songs that we have covered when we were teenagers! Like Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”! It would be nice to cover it with the skills we have now. We always have been friends and it would be so awesome to bring back these memories!

Tea making: milk first or last? Definitely coffee!

Tell us your funniest joke! What’s the difference between a pigeon? (French absurd humor)
