Fatality are Josh (Vocals), Garth (Guitar), Matt (Bass) and Jordy (Vocals), and they're from Essex. They describe themselves as "a mix between nu-metal, heavy metal, hip hop and anything else we decide to throw into our music at the time"
Who is your main inspiration?
We draw our influences from loads of different avenues. Musically some of those would be bands like Lamb of God, Limpbizkit, Machinehead, Fear Factory, Papa Roach, Slipknot etc. As far as non-musical influences go we usually draw that from events in our lives that directly affect us or things we strongly believe in. This usually translates pretty well into performance as we can convey our energy and emotion about each song over to the audience.
What is your songwriting process?
We all write together. We feel that if we’re all excited and passionate about each instrument and each lyric then we’re at our best. We lay down the basis of a track, then we assess and refine along with writing lyrics that mean something to us. We do the whole process together as a band, rather than one person writing a track and the rest of us playing it in a way that wouldn’t always necessarily compliment our individual playing styles.
Our songs are mainly about things that are on our mind at the time. Life events, the state of the world, video games haha! We do have a strong connection with mental health however so a lot of our songs are about that in one way or another.
What made you want to start in music?
By hearing music and watching bands perform live. The buzz we all got from watching our favourite music live was amazing and I guess we all wanted a bit more. We wanted to be the people up there creating that buzz for others.
What is on the horizon for you?
We have new music in the works as always. We have a few tracks that are ready to be released and a load of new material that we’re constantly working on and refining. ’The Lesson’, ‘Indemnify’ and ‘Eight’ will be released over the next few months with the idea that we will accumulate these and more tracks into a 3rd EP/Album at the end of the year ready for when live music is back.
Who would you most like to collaborate with (alive or dead)?
Either Chester Bennington or Chris Cornell. Then I’d ask to do a collaboration with them both. They’re two vocalists that I really look up to and their music means a lot to me personally. It would be an absolute honour to have met them and I could tell them how much I owe them for their messages and music.
What is your ultimate goal?
We would ultimately love to play at festivals across the world. Places like Download, Hellfest, Wacken, Rock am Ring. Chris Jericho’s Rock and Wrestling Rager would be the ultimate dream for myself though! At the moment however due to the current condition of the world, we’re just going to keep doing what we enjoy doing. Writing tunes that we all enjoy to play, performing passionately for our audiences and having a damn good go at smashing through all and any glass ceilings that come before us.
If you could cover any song, what would it be?
We’ve covered loads of songs previously. For each tour or string of shows we do we like to throw in a different cover that we play in our own way. If we could pick one for the future maybe we could pull off our own version of Bohemian Rhapsody, with a metal choir or something like that! Why? Because it’s probably the greatest rock song ever written.
Tea making: milk first or last?
What a question? What sort of lunatic puts the milk in first? Always, and I cannot stress this enough, always last!
