One of the Last
One of the Last
One of the Last are a Hybrid Metal band from Brooklyn, NY. They are John (Vocals), Mario (Guitar), Parker (Guitar) and Tripp (Bass). Their music is a unique mix of hard rock, metalcore and thrash metal.
Who is your main inspiration?
We’re influenced by bands such as Metallica, Killswitch Engage, Parkway Drive, Trivium and Bullet for my Valentine.
How do you write your music?
We start off with a guitar riff. Then we add some basic drums, bass and a vocal melody. After the foundation is set, we add lead guitar, solos, accenting drums and lyrics. Once everything fits, we practice the song until it’s perfect and we head to the studio to record it!
What made you want to start in music?
(John) Personally, I’ve always loved music but never knew how to go about making it a career. It wasn’t until I attended a local VFW show where I saw kids my age performing. I immediately put together a band with some of my friends, we played shows and sucked haha. This was the early 2000s so the music not only sucked, but it was dated too! Throughout the years, I’ve listened to a lot more music, honed my craft and now I’m in a band with 3 other amazing musicians!
What is on the horizon for you?
Our first goal is to get a drummer. We have a few people interested but the pandemic delayed our plans. Once we lock down a drummer, we want to crank out as many songs as we can! We want to release a new single every 2 months and we have about 14 different song ideas. After that, we want to promote our social media pages a lot more, do incredible interviews with amazing publications (like yours!) and potentially send our music out to a few labels. We’re in this for the long haul and we will be a force to reckon with!
Who would you most like to collaborate with?
I’m a huge Linkin Park fan so it would be awesome to work with Mike Shinoda on a song or even Mr. Hahn with a video. Unfortunately, Chester Bennington passed away but that would have been incredible to have his vocals on one of our tracks!
What is your ultimate goal?
Just to be the best band we can be. Everyone has their own path so I don’t want to say, “we want to be the next Metallica” because it’s not going to happen. We can’t look at other bands’ successes and strive for their exact goals. What we want to do is simple: make a career playing music and try to become as big as we can. I feel we’re on the right track already so when the world opens back up, we’re ready to go!
If you could cover any song, what would it be?
That’s a good question. We did one cover as a band (Scotty Doesn’t Know from the movie Eurotrip) and half the band hated doing it haha. Cover songs, in my eyes, are a drug. It’s nostalgia based. If you want to throw in a cover in your set, go for it. The problem is, you don’t want to be known as a cover band when you have original songs. I feel less and less people want to hear your songs and just want to hear your covers. It’s a slippery slope, that’s for sure!
Tell us your funniest joke!
So I know a lot of inappropriate jokes which I’m not going to share but I found a singer joke that made me laugh: What do you call someone who hangs around with musicians? A vocalist! Sad but true.
