fools for kings
We are Fools for Kings, a rock band from the UK. We consist of Kieran Picken as lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist, Daniel Callaghan as the bassist, Isaac Brady as the drummer, and Jordan Picken on lead guitar.
Where are you based?
What genre would you describe yourself as?
Blues rock with elements of classic and pop rock would be a good summary we think.
Who is your main inspiration?
We all have quite different inspirations but the common band we look up to most would be Royal Blood.
What is your songwriting process (which bits come first?)
We usually begin with a riff or a melody and then sort of feel our way to the rest of the elements through that. Other times it can require a bit of surgery taking different riffs that we’ve written and joining them together if we feel they match well rather than writing a song naturally, or sometimes it does flow naturally into the next section of a song, it all depends. We get all the instrumental parts virtually complete before moving onto lyrics as we find this the most difficult part usually.
What made you want to start in music?
We originally just formed to play covers for fun trying to emulate our favourite bands and so we have developed our own material and sound over time from there.
What is on the horizon for you?
We want to use the current events to focus on our music, we want to get as many songs written as possible so that we can test them out when we can play live again.
Who would you most like to collaborate with (alive or dead)?
A few names were said in response to this one, John Bonham, Matt Bellamy, Mike Kerr, the list goes on!
What is your ultimate goal?
To make music we enjoy, play as many shows as we can, and see what happens.
If you could cover any song, what would it be?
Choosing just one between us is difficult, but we always play Out of the Black by Royal Blood at every rehearsal to get hyped up.
Tea making: milk first or last?
Quite a resounding last.
Tell us your funniest joke!
Two men are hunting in a forest and one gets mauled by a bear. The second man called 999 and says, “I need an ambulance, my friend got attacked by a bear and I think he might be dead!” The operator says “Okay, stay calm, can you make sure if he’s dead?” There’s a loud gunshot and the second man picks up the phone again and says “Okay now what?”
