Since we began our Artist of the Day feature, we've "met" some really great artists and probed them with some really difficult questions! Todays artists is no exception, as we catch up with Mark Eden.
Tell us about Mark Eden?
I do everything on the recordings but live is something different of course. I tend to write and record really fast so it is easier for me to get down my ideas on my own.
The live line up is myself (vocals, guitars), Julia Eden (vocals and bass) and Dexter Stanley Tauvao (vocals and drums.)
Where are you based?
I am from Australia but based in Berlin.
What genre would you describe yourself as?
That has always been a hard one for me but I will give it a try! I suppose you could say alternative / acoustic / pop / rock / soul… pretty long huh!!! But that encapsulates most of the genres that I cover.
Who is your main inspiration
My main inspiration is The Beatles.
What made you want to start in music?
When I was growing up in Australia my parents would have house parties. The real kind where people would actually go to your house and party ;) My dad played 12 string guitar and people would get up and join him, usually there would be a washboard and some spoons and a bass guitar now and then. It was crazy, people would scream and dance and simply have a blast. My parents were great dancers also the could do the swing like nobodies business. That is where I am sure my love of music began. Seeing people react in such a party atmosphere was for me really inspirational although I didn’t know it at the time.
What is on the horizon for you?
Well, all the gigs for this year are out the window because of the virus, so I am concentrating on making videos which is just another part of the process. I love it as you can get pretty nuts with visuals and they don’t have to relate to the music at all, which is kinda cool. We are working on the new video for ‘Mystified’ my 3rd single from my solo album ‘Things To Be’. Also I have another band Under The Tongue and we are releasing a song every 6 weeks with a video, so that is keeping me really busy also. The first video ‘Waterfall’ was out on the 10th of July. It is a very different project to my solo music which I love. I really need both projects to get out what is in this crazy head of mine. It is like therapy.
Who would you most like to collaborate with?
Not an easy question to answer to be honest, can I have a few people? Yes I think I heard you say! John Lennon, Prince, Elliot Smith and Jimi Hendrix.
What is your ultimate goal?
My ultimate goal would be to continue creating music, make awesome videos while travelling the world, touring and having fun. Also I would like to live outside of Berlin and grow my own veggies with my wife… that is the plan.
If you could cover any song, what would it be?
There are so many from so many different genres… how about something chilled like ‘Thirteen’ by Big Star or ‘Waltz #2" by Elliot Smith.
Tea making: milk first or last?
Mate… always last, how can you dissolve the honey if it is first?
Tell us your funniest joke!
You got me with that, I would say that I am my biggest joke. We can’t take ourselves too seriously now can we?
