EXCLUSIVE! - First look at Def Neon's new single and video "Sparks"

We are delighted to have been given the opportunity to give you the first look at Def Neon's video for their new single, "Sparks"

DEF NEON (Mickey Harmina and Emily Gresham) met at Vic Studios in Wrexham and struck up an immediate connection based on a shared love of anime, horror films, and raving.

Freeing themselves of the expectations of others, the band adopted an ‘anything goes’ approach to their sound; with elements of pop, electro, punk, rock, and synthwave all thrown into the mix - themselves describing their sound as ‘Daft Punk crossed with Siouxsie Sioux’, or ‘Peaches meets Van Halen’.

Since the release of 2016’s eponymous debut album, the duo has gigged extensively throughout the UK, on top of support slots for 65daysofstatic, Death in Vegas, The Orb, Sonic Boom Six and The Birthday Massacre.

DEF NEON has spent much of 2019 in the studio, with their second album War Beats primed for release in early 2020. As a teaser for that, and in keeping with their DIY approach, they have made their own video for the track Sparks.

The video features multi-coloured neon streaks permeating the stark, monochromatic performance footage: a fitting tribute to the essence of the song which the band describes as ‘...a bittersweet ode to the end of friendships...’

At its heart,Sparks is a modern Synth-Pop song: Anthemic, energetic and uplifting instrumentation set against soaring vocals and introspective lyrics,Sparks is a song about finding the strength to cope with loss.
