Marvin Dee Band: Hungry/Walking In Memphis

Rotterdam's Marvin Dee Band return with a double release Hungry and Walking In Memphis, both recorded during quarantine.

Walking In Memphis is of course a cover of the Marc Cohn classic. We won't go into too much detail because everyone knows the song. Suffice to say though, this version stays true to the original and the band have done a grand job.

The real treat with this release is the other track, Hungry. It's a folky number, catchy from the beginning, filled with soothing strings and impressive vocal harmonies. It's a toe-tapper with a beautiful feel to it. This week's go to tune when you want to relax and put your feet up.

Venus DeMilo: Northern Lights

Venus DeMilo return with their beautiful new track Northern Lights.

"The song is about seeing something so amazing and indescribable in someone that the only comparison you can make is to the Northern Lights."

Similarly, the song is pretty amazing too. Atmospheric and minimalistic to begin with, it builds with synths and some more incredible vocal harmonies until it becomes an immense cacophony that, I hope the band don't mind me saying, reminds me of Coldplay's Fix You. (that's a compliment, by the way!)

If you haven't yet discovered Venus Demilo, Northern Lights is the perfect introduction to this very promising band

Caiine: Breakdown

On her Facebook page, Caiine has been described as the new Nina Simone and I'd be inclined to agree! The similarities are there; Caiine has a soulful, smokie voice - this places the talented 21 year old singer, songwriter and producer very firmly in the "ones to watch" category.

Breakdown is stripped back to a simple piano and strings, allowing the impressive vocals to shine - and shine they certainly do! Strong and emotive, the lyrics tell of an impending fear that change is on the way, something of a foreshadowing, considering it was penned early this year.

Breakdown is bound to make you sit up and discover why Caiine was added to the BBC Introducing Hot List 2020 of top artists to watch this year.

Our rating: 9.2/10
