our april selection (part 1)

We have been pretty quiet recently, what with responding to all our fan mail and that (cheers mum!) and the hours of amazing music we've been listening to. It's been a tough job thinning these down to the best of the best, but we hope you will agree that we've unearthed some real gems!

Action Slacks "Rapid Fire"

Action Slacks band PR shot for their single Rapid Fire

We kick of with Brisbane Glamour Pop band Action Slacks and their retro feeling synth and guitar banger, Rapid Fire.

The band have been around for a few years, with a string of brilliant singles already under their belts.

Rapid Fire has a familiar feel to it (has a sound similar to "Dumb" by Alleyways?), but its definitely one of those tunes that will stick in your head.

Our rating: 9.1/10

Dreams Divide "Freedom"

Dreams Divide band cover art for their single Freedom

Keeping up the electronic feel, Dreams Divide return with their Depeche Mode-esque new single, Freedom.

Here's an anthemic synthpop tune that tells of the lack of support for frontline workers from the powers that be.

Watch out for their new EP, Milk and Leather, due out in May.

Our rating: 9.6/10

Third Lung "I A Fire"

Press shot for Third Lung's single "I A Fire"

Crikey, this one is massive! Third Lung's I A Fire is a pop rock tune which has quite the most uplifting, wall of sound chorus that powers itself to our Single of the Week.

It's a realisation of the moment we overcome our inner demons and empower ourselves to become that which we wish to be. Reminiscent of The Killers or U2, maybe even a touch of Suede in the vocals, this is definitely a favourite here and becomes only the third song we've ever given our maximum rating score to.

Our rating: 10/10

What do you think? Do you agree with our ratings? Which is your favourite of the three songs?
