Lunar are a progressive metal band. We’re all kind of spread out pretty far, but the easiest answer where we are from is California - as everyone except Chandler lives in some part of California.

Who is your main inspiration?

For me personally, biggest inspiration / influence has always been Opeth, and I think anyone that is familiar with our material can hear that.

What is your songwriting process (which bits come first?)

Usually I approach song-writing for a whole album… I get an idea of the story or theme of the album first and then I kind of base the writing around that.  It gives me an idea of the dynamic I want the songs to take to convey the proper emotion of the songs.  Then it goes to me writing / programming some guitar parts and the rest comes after that.

What made you want to start in music?

I feel like it’s in my blood.  I’ve wanted to be a musician as long as I can remember.  It’s something I fantasized about as a kid even before I knew how to play an instrument.  I think once I discovered music, it just clicked for me that that’s all I wanted to do.

What is on the horizon for you?

We’re currently working on album #3.  We don’t have a ton of detail to divulge about it yet, but I think it’s safe to say it’s going to be the best Lunar album yet!  I’m really proud and excited about the material already and it’s still fairly early on.  We have the drums and bass basically finished and the rest is currently being worked on.  We’re hoping for sometime maybe in mid 2021 for it to be released.  Make sure you follow the social media pages for updates on that.

And in the mean time, the 2nd album “Eidolon” has been out for almost a year now, and we’re getting ready to release it on a limited edition vinyl pressing!  Only 100 hand-numbered copies being made!  So anyone that wants one make sure to order it as soon as it’s available.  That should be out by the end of the year.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

Mikael Akerfeldt and Steven Wilson.  Either would be dream come true status for me.  But both together is the “dream” collaboration.  I’ll drum on Storm Corrosion album #2 if they ever do one.  If anyone knows them, tell them to hit me up…

What is your ultimate goal?

I suppose an ultimate goal would just to be successful at this.  I don’t mean rock-star rich and famous… Just what I think anyone in this industry wants these days; to make a sustainable living making music, doing what I’m good at and the only thing I know how to do.

If you could cover any song, what would it be?

We’ve actually been discussing doing some covers in the near future.  Probably won’t make it onto album #3, but hopefully whatever we do after that we’ll include some covers.  A few that I would really like to do personally are “Of Mice and Men” by Megadeth, “The Perfect Drug” by Nine Inch Nails and / or “Forest” by System of a Down.  Hopefully we’ll be able to do at least one of those in the near future.

Tell us your funniest joke!

America in 2020.  Never seen more of a joke in my life.  But it’s definitely not funny…How about a classic for the music industry these days….

What do you call a musician with no girlfriend?

Homeless
