New Music: Hugo M. Hardy "Trainspotting"

He may be fairly new to releasing music but Hugo M. Hardy can certainly write a song! Trainspotting was inspired by a period of grief and heartbreak and is the first track to be taken from his upcoming album. These emotions, while tragic, often provide the sharpest creativity and this has most definitely been the case for Hugo. Trainspotting is a heart-wrenching tune, beautifully complicated in its simplicity. Piano, drums, strings and guitar take it in turns to step up and lead the song along, while Hugo's vocals, sparse but on point, tell the story in a delicate, poignant way. "Trainspotting is a song about the nostalgic feeling of watching the people around me growing up, and feeling like

New Music: October Round-Up (Part 2)

October keeps on swinging and we're here to bring you the best new music from those up and coming artists that you need to know about! Shambolics - Love Collides I've said it before, and I'll say it again... I love Shambolics! Love Collides is a high octane ride through a teetering relationship. The journey is represented by a manic series of optimistic major chords to desperate minor chords. It dares you to keep up with the goings on, as the relationship takes on highs and lows at a fair old pace, as relationships often do. Shambolics have kept us entertained throughout the pandemic with some very impressive lockdown cover versions but it's a real treat to hear new music from them, particul

New Music: Odillia x Snoop Dogg "Break It Down"

24 year old Odillia is certainly a name that you will soon become familiar with. At just 16, Odillia left home with a burning desire to make it in the music industry. She shot to fame after appearing on BBC's All Together Now, as well as finishing second in Season 5 of Holland's Got Talent as part of the dance group No Escape XXL, before moving to LA in 2019, where she signed a major record deal. Her chart topping debut single End of the World featuring Lil' Keed racked up over 10 million views on social media, and with her follow-up single Break It Down she has teamed up with none other than rap legend Snoop Dogg. Break It Down is a track that will brighten up the end of Summer with its fre

New Music Review - in earnest

Without doubt, one of our favourite discoveries of 2020 has been Southend-on-Sea's masters of sad indie music, in earnest and we're delighted to hear that their self-titled debut EP has finally been released! Sarah, Thomas and Toby make up the band and the EP was written in an attempt to encourage conversation about mental health. "It's a dialogue from two perspectives; a call from one who feels too much and a response from the other who must plead for them to stay alive." It explores themes of hope vs hopelessness, desperation, loneliness and identity and indeed, the raw emotion and openness is clear to see throughout the album. Opening with the poignant 29, this is a tale of childhood memo

New Music for October (Part 1)

Marvin Dee Band: Hungry/Walking In Memphis Rotterdam's Marvin Dee Band return with a double release Hungry and Walking In Memphis, both recorded during quarantine. Walking In Memphis is of course a cover of the Marc Cohn classic. We won't go into too much detail because everyone knows the song. Suffice to say though, this version stays true to the original and the band have done a grand job. The real treat with this release is the other track, Hungry. It's a folky number, catchy from the beginning, filled with soothing strings and impressive vocal harmonies. It's a toe-tapper with a beautiful feel to it. This week's go to tune when you want to relax and put your feet up. Our rating: 8.8/10 V

New Music: Zima "Memories"

I love a bit of progressive house and sadly we don't get enough sent to us here at It's Indie Towers. So it was a real treat when we were sent Memories, the new single from Swiss artist, producer and DJ, Zima Zima is certainly beginning to make waves in the world of EDM. His music is uplifting and memorable, lining him up with artists such as Avicii and Kygo. Memories is certainly up there with some of the giants of the genre. Expect crowd-pleasing chords, with festival-worth synth lines and the inevitable huge drops that lift the track into epic territory. The vocals talk of future nostalgia and Zima's delivery is top notch, effortlessly switching from a chilled, scene setting verse to a po

Album Review: INEGO "Departures"

As far as albums go, there are very few that I've waited for with quite so much anticipation as this one! I was first introduced to INEGO back in 2018, when this site was in it's infancy, when the band came to me with their single Nobody - which still remains one of my favourite songs of all time. Back then, we were promised a debut full length album and finally, here we are! Firstly, a quick introduction for the uninitiated. Hailing from Manchester, the band is made up of Toby (guitars, vocals), Pete (drums), Dan (guitars), and Stefan (bass). INEGO, named after a character in The Princess Bride (Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father!), have been around for some time. Their f
